TCMTS wins Theatre Production of the Year

It is no secret that the Arts at Trinity have been well-recognised this year, and this has been echoed throughout the 2012 Union House Theatre Awards, held last Friday 26 October.

The 国产BT Music Theatre Society's (TCMTS) production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee was successfully nominated for the 2012 Union House Theatre Production of the Year Award. The prize is given to the best production at Union House Theatre by any university theatre group, and awards a cash prize of $1,000 from the University of Melbourne Theatre Board to the winning team. In winning this award, TCMTS has not only been recognised for the best overall production for 2012, but has also set up next year's committee for a successful show.

The decision was made on the basis that the TCMTS production had the best ensemble cast, and was as a result, the most entertaining and well-presented show. Outgoing Artistic Director, Rachel Ryan (3rd year Arts), Treasurer, David Morley (3rd year Science), and incoming Producer, Simone Nathan (2nd year Arts), who accepted the award, are delighted and proud of the work that was put in and the show that resulted.

In her absence due to exchange, 2012 Producer, Anna Sloan (2nd year Arts), commented, 'This award is an absolutely incredible honour. I am so proud of everyone involved. It鈥檚 a testament to the months of hard work from a wonderfully dedicated crew and an enthusiastic and talented cast, all of whom I am so grateful to. TCMTS continues to move from strength to strength and I wish Simone Nathan all the best for an even bigger and better 2013 musical.'

Congratulations must also be given to resident lighting and technical director, Will Penington, who won the Professional Development Award with a cash prize of $500, and 2012 Play Producer, Julia Stretch, who was also nominated for that award.
