Each year, all Foundation Studies Media & Communications students undertake a journalism module that includes a practical newsroom experience with Meld Magazine, an online news magazine for international students founded by former ¹ú²úBT Foundation Studies student Ms Karen Poh.
Recently, three FS students – Christy Chan, Yu Chen and Steven Prawidjaja – pitched the idea of covering the new Jurassic World story to Meld’s editor, Mr Hieu Chau. The editor was impressed by their initiative and organised a media invite with the Museum.
The students were included in all media activities: this included exclusive access to press kits, invites to take photos and conduct interviews. They were then led through the exhibition.
The FS students also had a special opportunity to chat with two Hollywood stars – Nick Robinson and Ty Simpkins, who played brothers Zach and Gray respectively in the movie Jurassic World.
The three students wrote a story on the exhibition, which Meld magazine has published .
According to FS student Steven Prawidjaja, ‘This is like an internship, trying a new job which I have never tried before. Maybe from this experience I can learn about a career with the media.’
